I’m Kate Barny, a trilingual (mainly self-taught) writer of educational books and author of fiction novels.
I was born and raised in Greece, later lived in England, and eventually settled in France with my husband, two dogs, and plenty of books. After navigating different countries and professional identities, I finally embraced what I loved most: crafting stories.
Drawing and scribbling have been my favorite pastimes since I first held a pencil. A fervent sci-fi buff since childhood—and a devoted admirer of Greek mythology (one cannot deny their roots!)—I couldn’t resist merging past and future into my tales.
My passion for reading scientific and technological articles continually fuels my imagination with futuristic gadgets, avant-garde dwellings, spaceships, teleportation, and exotic worlds.
Many of my writing ideas emerge from my subconscious—some characters stepping out of nightmares, others from gentler dreams. Before diving fully into fiction, I studied canine behavior and worked with these fascinating animals for several years, later writing books on positive reinforcement and understanding behavioral issues. In 2019, I completed Creative Writing courses and wrote my first memoir. Soon after, I ventured into speculative fiction, embracing some of its sub-genres: sci-fi, science fantasy, false utopia, and climate fiction.
My stories speak to readers who enjoy avant-garde fictional prose (so I’ve been told!) and anyone eager to journey through futuristic, complex worlds where boundaries disappear, and tomorrow is never what it seems. Good reading, everyone!
